Inspiration

Recently, I was asked as part of an introduction to a Women’s Retreat what made my heart sing. It was refreshing to be asked that question rather than to be asked for the traditional bio.

What makes my heart sing?

So many things, so many experiences that remind me that the Divine is working in and among us and is more mysterious we will ever know.

All TogetherMy family is top of the list. They remind me of who I am and who I could be. There support and encouragement is why I am who I am.

Good Books and the quest to find the next book has always been a part of who I am. It’s why I read so many books at one time.  It’s what made me decide to be a reading teacher and kept me wondering and questioning until I recognized my call to ministry.

Good Coffee helped me survive bus duty, Hebrew quizzes and three years of commuting to seminary. It’s one of the German influences that draws me to a local coffee shop at around 4 almost every day.

Good Conversation I can remember growing up sitting at my grandmother’s feet as she sat in her recliner and just listening to my mom and aunts talk to her. I hardly ever participated in those conversations, but sitting and listening summer afternoon after summer afternoon instilled in my the understanding that to truly hear people and God, you have to sit and listen.

Good Connections remind us that the Divine is alive and active in our lives. Realizing that you were in the same place at the same time with someone who you encounter later in life at a different time and place just reminds us of the Divine whispering around us.
