- Being Mortal by Atul Gawande: I picked up this book during Lent in 2020 not knowing that we were headed for a global pandemic. Needless to say, I put it back down and didn’t pick it back up for another year. That year was the year my dad was placed on hospice. I put it back down. This year I was finally ready. I needed a place to process through the death and what it teaches us about living. This is exactly that book. Don’t be turned off if you, too, have to pick it up and put it back down. You’ll know when you’re ready to read it.
- Emotional Inheritance by Galit Atlas: I have been working on breaking generational cycles with directees and those who are working through soul wounds for 10 years and yet there was so much about the emotional inheritance that is a result of trauma I never knew. If you are on a journey of healing deep soul wounds are trying to find words and language for what you know to be true, this is a must read!
- The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama: I am not kidding when I say about half this book is underlined. As much as I loved her first book, it’s this book that I will keep referring back to because it is how she finds the strength to keep doing the work she is called to do. It is personal and deeply spiritual and exactly what I needed for the road ahead.
- The Autoimmune Cure by Sara Gottfried: I have read about the proceeded connection between autoimmune diagnoses and trauma and have longed suspected there was a link. Gottfried has done the work to connect the two in a way that everyone needs to read and process. This is a life-changing read, especially for those whose bodies are trying to communicate with them.
- Tinkers by Paul Harding: This is a beautiful and heart-wrenching story of a man who is remembering and reflecting on a life lived as he lays dying. I don’t know how I haven’t found this book and this author before now.
