Many teachers would argue that marketing has no place in the classroom. That we shouldn’t “stoop” to trying to “sell” students on learning.
I was one of those teachers.
Until I listened to this.
Then I realized it was decision time.
I could either decide to embrace the world that I was living in or ignore it and hide in my classroom. If chose the latter, then I was choosing to make teaching all about me and my comfort level.
When I chose to embrace the world of social media, I realized that I was extended my students’ learning beyond the classroom in a way teachers could only dream about.
These marketing people are onto something.
We are marketing. We are marketing that education is the key to the future. We are marketing that in class learning is relevant to the world that they encounter outside the classroom.
And frankly…
We are marketing poorly.
