Students learn differently.
Adults learn differently.
This is not surprising news and actually isn’t news.
We are all aware that how we learn doesn’t look the same as the person beside us and may not look the same from day to day.
Sometimes a conversation increases our understanding. Sometimes an article challenges an idea. Sometimes a podcast perks our interest.
And yet, schools are still concentrating on one way of learning and one way of showing that learn: on a test.
Regrettably, though the kids worked very hard, writing almost until their hands fell off, the only skill they acquired was passing the English Regents.
It begs the questions are we teaching students to learn or teaching students to take test?
