Twas the night before school
And all through the house
every creature was stirring
and bouncing about.
The summer sun
had kissed all their cheeks
while splashing and jumping
into all kinds of fun.
The backpacks were packed
with pencils and scissors
and glue sticks to spare
in hopes that they would
all have a great year.
And just for a moment
it seems all too fast.
They’re growing and changing
as time whooshes past.
Tomorrow they’ll wake
it will be a new year
their hopes and their dreams
will become quite clear.
But here for a moment
I stop and take stock
weren’t they just babies
I held and I rocked?
Away they will fly
they are ready to soar
Happy School Year to all
on tomorrow’s big day!
