I want to go to church
It’s a simple request and desire and one I received on Sunday morning last week. I wish I could say that for this young lady simply wanting to go to church meant she could go to church, but because she is an adult with special needs, she has to depend on a member of our church body to come and pick her up and take her home.
As a rerouted to pick her up, it made me wonder how many other people there are who want to go to church, but simply can’t settle the logistics of getting a ride or figuring our a bus system or coming up with the money for a taxi in order to go to church. How many people are there on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights who would want a warm place to worship and fellowship surrounding our churches and our homes?
And then I wonder how many people there are who would have texted
I don’t want to go to church
because for them church has been a place of pain and hurt rather than hope and healing. How many people are there on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights who would want a welcoming and affirming place to worship and fellowship our churches and our homes?
I don’t know the answer to the question to either of those questions.
I just know last Sunday there was one and that one was picked up for church.
