I glanced in my rearview window and saw a little black nose sticking out the window. Willie had finally discovered the wonders of car riding! He was still a little timid and not completely sure that he wanted to stick his whole head out the window, but he surely wanted to smell what was coming.
He has very good eye sight, so I wonder if he was depending on his nose or his eyes to hypothesize what adventure lay at the end of the car ride. I wasn’t sure, but I knew that I could smell the honeysuckle so strongly. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what he could smell.
Whether it was what other animals had been on this path before or what the restaurant on the corner was cooking for breakfast, I knew he could smell summer.
He could smell a change of pace, a change of routine and many more adventures to come.
