I was trained as a teacher to have short-range plans, long-range plans, and a five-year career plan. None of those plans included being called into ministry, going back to school and starting a whole new profession.
Sometimes, I am stopped in my tracks when someone asks, “How did you end up here?” because I didn’t plan on being here. I didn’t plan on being a pastor. I didn’t even think as a woman I could be a pastor.
Even as much as I like a plan and a roadmap, my life’s journey reminds me over and over again of the joy of the unexpected when you trust in the Holy Spirit’s calling and listen to that still, small voice.
It might not be something you ever dreamed you could be or would be, but it is always something that brings your hope and wholeness.
