In the corporate world, it is not uncommon when offered a new position to be offered a signing bonus (around $10,000), full paid moving expenses and even a place to live.
Are there any teachers who have been offered any of these “perks?”
I think that teachers will soon become teacher contractors.
Schools, especially independent schools, will contract out positions to teachers. This would save independent schools the cost of teacher insurance and also allow independent schools to switch out teachers more often than each school year.
While I’m not sure that we will enjoy the perks of becoming more corporate, I do think teachers are going to need a business skill set that we currently don’t have.
We are going to need to know how to keep expense accounts and how to files taxes as independent contractors.
We are going to be teacher contractors.
