The second chapter in Luke, which is often used as a lectionary passage during this Advent season tells the story of Nary being told by the angels that she was to give birth to the Son of God. After this happens and she has the child, Mary and Joseph are visited by shepherds. We don’t hear Mary’s voice at this point in the narrative, but we do hear that she treasured and pondered all these things in her heart in verse 19.
I can’t help but think these same sentiment is appropriate for me (not just because we share a name) after this wonderful day or ordination. To hear others say that what you’ve heard from God is true and to have a community enthusiastically affirm you is to have your whole life changed.
I know that on this journey whether I am sitting with shepherds or kings, I will know the importance of community, support and yea, church in changing people’s lives because it certainly has changed mine!
